Learn First, Teach Later! A valuable message for all so-called & would-be spiritual teachers & gurus!

In my recent post Spiritual Truths and Swine!
I spoke of the dangers of discussing spiritual truths
with superficial people. I explained that not only can
such people not understand spiritual truths properly
themselves, but they can also end up teaching their
children and future generations superficial versions
of spiritual truths. This already has led to very bad
results for humanity over thousands of years, as
anyone reasonably intelligent may understand.

My post brought about a few
questions along the lines of “Well, Philip,
what should we do to help superficial people?”

My stock answer to such people is:
“Are you sure that you actually understand
spiritual truths as they should be understood?
For if you don’t, you should focus on learning
deeply instead of trying to educate others!”

The reason I ask this question is because most people
claiming to possess spiritual truth do not have it and
are, themselves, carriers of superficial versions of
spiritual truths. The same is true of most people
claiming to be Godly or Spiritual. They are only
superficially Godly or superficially Spiritual.

And so it proved on this occasion.
Those who had asked me what they
should be doing to help superficial people,
all themselves turned out to be superficial!

The world is full of people calling themselves golfers
or tennis players or chess players or poker players.
But there is a very great difference between someone
who owns a set of golf clubs and an Open championship
winner. The same is true of someone who plays tennis
at the local club and a Wimbledon champion. I may beat
my family and friends at chess but that does not mean I
have a chance against a Grandmaster. You may win a
few pounds off your friends in a friendly poker game at
home but would be well-advised to keep your hard
earned savings away from professional poker players!

The same truth applies in spirituality. There is an
enormous difference between the understanding
and practise of sages and prophets and that of most
so-called spiritual teachers and gurus on the planet.
The latter brigade are but novices compared to the sages
and prophets, and are in fact the blind leading the blind.

I have explained this valuable point here because all who
feel the urge to teach spiritual truths to others must first
be extremely honest and ask themselves if they actually
understand and practise spiritual truths as a sage or
prophet might. For if they don’t, they are only going to
add to the great confusion which already exists.

Humanity can do without additional confusion, without more
blind fools masquerading as gurus and spiritual teachers.
Humanity needs honest, sincere, intelligent people – be they
atheists, agnostics or believers – to start thinking about who
or what man is and what life is really all about. It needs
people who can go deep within, discover spiritual truths
from first principles, and practise them as naturally as
breathing and walking and eating and sleeping. It needs
people who can live in harmony with the universe and act in
accordance with universal time. Then and then alone will
humanity have the spiritual teachers and gurus it is always
crying out for – and deserves!

“Learn First, Teach Later!” is a fundamental, simple-and-easy
spiritual principle. Anyone with sincerity, honesty and conscience
can understand and practise it. So go deep within, my friends,
and unlearn and learn and unlearn and learn and unlearn and
learn until you and spiritual principles have become one and the
same. Then you will be a spiritual being, in tune with the
universe, in accord with the wisdom of the sages and prophets,
and you then may teach Divine truths to those capable of
learning – without error and without adding to the confusion!

A few days ago, I posted the following
at Twitter, Facebook and FriendFeed:

“Do not discuss spiritual truths
with superficial people. Swine tend to
trample upon pearls. — Philip Arnold.”

Altough my post received several Retweets and
Likes, a few of my regular readers disagreed
with this great wisdom. They spoke of the need
to educate the superficial, of people having and
sharing their own spiritual truths, and of elitism.

I found their views very surprising because not only
is my quote a standard spiritual truth, known to
anyone interested in spiritual metaphysics, but also
because my previous quote

“Only those who have learned
to exercise their minds can make
sense of inner truths. — Philip Arnold”

which deals with the same topic, brought no dissent.

Recognizing the confusion on this topic,
I posted this explanation at Facebook:

“All spiritual traditions and schools have known and
practised this great truth. The reason for this is that
spiritual truth is not relative. Nor is it subjective. It is
absolute, it is principle, and it has to be understood
and practised as it actually is. You cannot have my
spiritual truth and your spiritual truth and a third
party’s spiritual truth. If it is not absolute, if it is not
principle, if it is not universally applicable, it is not
spiritual truth! Do not forget that spirit is not many
but one and all-inclusive!

Accordingly, spiritual truth cannot and must not be
given to superficial people because their minds cannot
understand it. Superficial people will always pervert
and abuse it, and abuse you as well! Moreover, they
will teach others superficial versions of spiritual
principles, causing havoc in humanity. This, of course,
has happened again and again over the centuries
amongst adherents of the great religions, and is
happening even more so these days, with all sorts of
superficial people and mere writers playing at being
spiritual teachers and gurus. People no longer
understand their scriptures and many are practising
the exact opposite of what the scriptures contain!

Jesus was very familiar with the dangers of spiritual
truth being given to the uninitiated and warned his
disciples accordingly. He refused to explain spiritual
truths to the masses, restricting them to parables
instead, because their minds were not ready. You can
read about it in the gospels and see Jesus’ explanation:

Here’s The Parable of the Sower
as we find it in Matthew13:1-23:

Let Jesus explain it to you!

I hope everyone is now clear on this topic. But if you
aren’t, just remember that we practise this truth in
many ways in ordinary life each and every day without
confusion and without talking of elitism! You don’t, for
example, discuss the follies of politicians with a baby.
You don’t teach grammar to children who have yet to
learn the alphabet. You don’t hand a torch to a blind
man. And you certainly shouldn’t hand a loaded gun
to anyone unfamiliar with guns!”

My reply seems to have been understood by my
Facebook readers as no one has challenged it. But
I have made this post for the benefit of all my other
readers who might be confused.

If you ever disagree with my own quotes
– Philip Arnold quotes – or feel that the spiritual
principle within the quote is not as clear to you as it
should be, do not hesitate to let me know. Wherever
appropriate, I can always make a post explaining my
quote in detail. Please don’t forget that I am not on
the Internet for the popular spam and porn diet but
to promote True Spirituality, and to provide spiritual
nourishment to any genuine seekers that might exist!

Have a happy, mentally stimulating, deeply
illuminating day – today and every day!
